| So my gar is now too big for bloodworms(and frankly uninterested in them ;P) so yesterday I bought 8 guppies and 3 minnows...some got eaten by cichlids, but he got a few :)
Anyway, I set up two 10g breeder tanks and a 5g fry tank, cycled them with sponge filters, and put in pvc pipe for egg laying(if I do minnows)...now I just need fish. Has anyone bred minnows/guppies, if so what would you reccomend? which is easier? more nutritional for the gar?
Thanks! ^^ | |

| Red jewels, the breed like mad protect their young and you can grow them to whatever size the gar needs. I keep a pair just to breed feeders for my flowerhorns. P.s. I saved 6 for you |

| Fern- acutally I don't think I have a growout tank for the jewels I was going to get for you...and I'm almost positive if I put them in my main tank that they'd be eaten...they ate all 5 of my 1" cichlids before I could get them out :/ I'm sorry... | |

| Guppys plattys or mollys are easy, give them lots of planted plants and floating plants and you will pull out lots of fry.
It is what it is |

| guppies or minnows arent really that nutritious, im hoping you are also supplementing flakes and pellets with it right?
How about some marbled crays? Very easy and highly nutritious compared to guppies and minnows.

| If she gut loads the fry with whatever she wants to get into the gar it should help with nutrition.
Gut loading; feed the fry foods that you want your gar to eat before feeding them to the gar. |

| Typicaltony- I've been trying but he won't eat anything else...Ive tried flakes, pellets(floating and sinking), bloodworms(live and dead) but he won't eat anything but live fish. I'll look in to Marbled Crays...thanks :)
Fern- thats a great idea, thanks!
