| Good article - definately covered the issue it wanted to with me that I wasn't aware of. All of the old school books JUST mention the problems with the Nile Perch and that's it. Good to also hear that some of the species thought exinct are being found. Also, a solid warning for people shipping in WC Vics with hybridizationg going on in the lake inself. Of course, this could be yet another stop on the evolutionary road, even if it is a hunman-induced one... | |

| That's why we all need to keep a vic or 3. We are the species savior on most of them. I myself only have 2 but am always looking for more. That way if the lake ever gets fixed I will be more than willing to donate most of them to any restocking efforts.... If there are ever any. Vic breeders need to share fry with other competent breeders to keep them all going and help grow their numbers. |

| I was watching a thing on TV the other day about some guy shot a polar/grizzly hybrid.. They said that if they can come across another on in the wild, it will be a species.
So I guess in a way you can consider the hybrid cichlids to be new species.
I've always thought that when animals have to go outside of their species to mate there is a problem, and they are trying to save and produce what they can before there is no more left.
It's such a shame what we humans are doing to animals who are cherished and admired. | |
