| First topic message reminder :
I went home for 3 days and came back today to find my Red Jewels had laid eggs again which is not surprising. What was surprising was that my male Albino Bristlenose Pleco was guarding the breeding log that I put in there for them. I looked inside and I found eggs! I didn't know whether they were old enough to breed yet but I guess that question is answered! I don't know how old the eggs are, but they are still eggs.
What is the gestation period for Pleco eggs?
Anyone have any good articles or tips on how to raise Pleco fry?

| As far as short fins carrying the long fin trait, I've read that long fins is a dominant trait, so the short fins are recessive for it meaning they don't carry it. I believe I read that in TFH. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this. | |

| Its the other way around, short fin and reg color are dominant genes, long fin and albino are recessive. |

| Albino is recessive. Everywhere I've read says Longfin is dominant. Here's a discussion on it: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&p=127702
It looks like the longfin trait might actually be more then one gene at play though. Saw another thread about it on aquabid's forum: http://www.aquaboards.com/viewtopic.php?id=2193
So it might be good to be careful in saying a shortfin carries longfin genes and just advertise that the shortfin has longfin parents. From what I've read about it anyway.

| It's true that the parents can both be long finned and the baby can be short finned and NOT be a carrier. It's about a 25% chance, but it is possible. It works like this:
L = long finned gene (dominant) s = short finned gene (recessive)
___L ____ s
L__LL____Ls
s__Ls____ss
The ss in the equation would be the short finned plecos WITHOUT the Long finned gene OR VISA VERSA. It would work roughly the same way with Short finned genes being dominant as well, you would just switch the letters.

| Anyway... It works... REALLY WELL!!! More Fry! What do you think? They plastered the inside of the breeding cave with eggs this time and they all survived! | |

| The female lays the eggs and then the male guards them. She leaves the eggs alone. I've never had any trouble. | |

| Thank you. I have sold most of the Albinos now. My male died off, but I'm almost done growing one out to take his place. | |
