| How big do Angels need to be to be let out of breeding boxes and into a 75 gallon tank? The only tank mates are an albino Rainbow Shark six inch length who stands on its head all day and cruises the tank after dark (little to no light in the tank) and a six inch Raphael Striped Catfish who stays in his cave all day and cruises the tank at night (no lights on in tank)... the catfish does swim around the inside of his cave a few times a day and rubs on it as if to mark territory.
These angels are a cross between Phillipine Blue and Koi and are F3s called "Emporer" angel fish (the six that are about quarter size), and a philipine blue strain crossed where some are platinum/blue and some are marbled/blue which are between dime and nickel size. Purchased them this way as the photos of the adults looked great.
I have them in the breeding box to be able to localize them to the food as I am feeding them three times a day with either Ken's fish angel flake crushed, Hikari freeze dried tubifex worms, or San Fransisco Bay frozen food which is a mixture for omnivores.
Thanks, Dave

| Not sure about all the fancy types. Size doesn't determine breeding. Generally angels that are 50 cent size will start to pair off. Your best food for growth is black worms. Also for breeding. Once pairs start to breed move to 20 gal high with a piece of slate. Feeding live black worms only you will see pairs breed weekly. Good luck because you will need lots of aquariums to raise the fry. The key to good looking angels is not to crowd. If you crowd fins will bend. | |

| They are all big enough now to release them into the bigger tank. I have put dime size in my community tank hey did fine. | |

| Thank you. I just wanted to be sure that if I did put them in the community tank that they would be able to know when it is feeding time.
Currently I am feeding them three or four times a day on my days off with little to no left over food.

| They should be fine. They'll pick around the tank and find food that you can't even see. I feed my community tank twice a day. Morning and evening. | |

| I put the six quarter sized angels (a cross between red koi and Phillipine Blue) in the main tank, and split the dime sized ones up between the two breeder boxes by putting the bigger of this bunch in their own box).

| These are what I recieved. The Koi is a Red Koi crossed with a Phillipine Blue and the blue (lower right hand corner) is a Phillipine Blue crossed with a German Blue Veil Dave | |

| Its really amazing the names that they put on angels today. When I raised angel the two to the left were called blushing gold marbles. The one on the right was a silver. | |

| these actually will have a blue tint when the light hits them right, and the fins will have a blue coloration as well. The Koi are just now showing more than the black/white coloration.
Phillipine Blue is a coloration trait that was developed, and is quite interesting as I have seen it added to platinums to give an eerie blue sheen to the fish body and blue (aqua) fins.

| Post some more pictures when they are bigger. I would love to see them. Dr Barbra Norton wrote some very good articles on angel genetics in the 70s for a fish magazine. When I was raising silver. After many generations I some that were showing pink coloration. Also if you are going to breed. You want to breed single dose veil angels. You will get some double dose veils, single dose veils and commons. | |

| Those look good. I used to breed PB angels. Mine where ghost, smokey and pinoy. The blues are my favorites but I love the wild altums too | |

| And to think, these aren't even all colored out yet as they are still very young.
I have some of the blues that are a platinum blue (white with a hint of a blue sheen and no striping.).

| Dr. Who There are still Blushing Gold Marbles. The difference between them and the Koi is that the Koi should not have any striations showing in the dorsal fin. Many people get these two mixed up calling a Marble a Koi when it is not. | |

| Whisper the koi angels came from gold marbles. To be personally frank. I find a lot of the new named crossing not appealing. I'm old school. Give me a half black veil or a zebra lace veil and I'm in heaven. When you take the bar out of a silver angel, you have very weak genetics. | |

| Yes I agree with you. That's why I don't go to the Angelfish forum I joined when I first started having Angelfish. To dang confusing. I thought Bettas had a lot of them to remember but the Angelfish types are just totally ridiculous. | |
