About to setup a 125 African cichlid tank. Wish me luck as I have not had a cichlid tank setup for years. Could be a little rusty. Any advice/thoughts would greatly be appreciated

| agreed. it will be some work but will be an amazing tank! also if you added some lemon jakes.. those look prety nice. i would definately be sure to ad these fish at about 1 or 2 at the time because you dont want too many nitrates and it would be a good chance to let your tank slowwllyyy cycle |

| yes! and yes when you have a tank that size with some of those expensive fish such as front's you need to quarentine them for sure that long to make sure you dont lose your whole tank!! |

Dang this is going to be a lot of weekly work - bossman wrote:

I know most people are against it, but I was thinking about getting some cheap fish to cycle the tank first - bossman wrote:

Good point. Maybe I need to rethink the quanities here

| Ok so to start, I am going to be painting the background black and possibly the sides. Not sure how I feel about the sides yet. Any input?
Substrate, I will be using buffered cichlid sand, blk/white.
Not 100% sure as to how I am going to setup the landscaping. I want it to look as natural as possible. Problem is, is that it is kind of hard to come across certain things here in Alaska.

What's the ph coming out the tap? PH is just a number in most cases, as long as it is consistant. I keep my Mbuna's PH at 7.2

| I take back my previous statement on PH. With Tanganyika I always adjust because of tap water. | |

Really? I was just reading online to leave the ph at 7.8 which my tap is 7.7

| I know Tanganyika cichlids are sensitive to changes in water. If they were kept in 7.8 you should be fine. Its just adapting them to it. Ph is just a number but i doubt a front would last long or thrive as well in 6.0 . | |
