| Yes Bettas mature very fast. They can even sometimes be bred at three months. The males start flaring at each other as early as 1 1/2-2 months old. It's so cute when they are that little. I'm getting a shipment of about 12 Bettas next week from one of the top breeders in the counrty. She has also been my mentor for about four years. The young ones she's sending me are CT and HM. I'll post pics when they get here. | |

| while i know one cannot put a few males in a tank together because theyll obviously kill each other.
but is it true you can set up a fraternal aggregation without them killing each other? the rumor is that there are no defined territory lines and no individual male can stake dominance. that males can be kept in a similar fashion like female sorority tanks to conserve space for a large scale breeding project
i can still imagine its a stressful environment for them, and under no circumstances is an ideal situation.
what are your personal thoughts Whisper?
also a neutral dispassionate detached answer would be appreciated too; of simply ''Can it be done''? just to sate my curiosity and to see if there is any validity to this rumor

| No it can not be done. Two or more males in one tank is just asking for trouble. I know some people say they have done it but they have never returned at a later date to say how things went. So I have to believe that it didn't go well or we would have heard back. The same hold true with putting a male and a female together in a community tank. If she is not willing to breed he will chase and pick on her until death. If someone claims to be a loving pet owner then they would not under any circumstances try it. You can google Asian Betta breeders or on Youtube and you will see that they are huge breeders of Bettas and have hundreds if not thousands of jars for there males. If the theory to save space by being able to keep males together was true they surely would be the ones doing it. | |

| i see, its more a lazy amateur breeders practice then
well when i was young and unknowledgeable with fish(16yrsold), i used to keep a male and female betta together along with guppies, black skirt tetras and bronze cories in a 10gallon.
she was always gravid, and he would build a bubble nest. they never atually bred mind you. but there was never any brutal harassing going on. no more than i observe from my dwarf cichlids. they lived that way for 2 1/2 years

| Did she have an egg tube that you could see? They don't show gravid spots per say, more like fat with the egg tube. Consider yourself very lucky LOL. Being that young sometimes ignorance is bliss LOL. Still not a practice I would recommend however. | |

| ye, its not something i would do again. lol i used to do complete tear downs of the tank and wash the mardis gras colored gravel with boiling water every 2 to 3 times a year. miraculously nothing died. after 2 1/2 years of wondering why i never got any betta babies i gave up the hobby for 2years.
graduated to kribensis, got tired of bettas. the only bettas i bought after that were to condition my kribensis to breed (very old and unwanted bettas shoved on the backs of walmart shelves). i dont do that practice anymore either for fear of communicable diseases to my fish. now i use a punk male kribensis for my mating pair to whale on, then I remove the carcass. they always display more stunning colors and produce bigger broods after they murder as a couple. weird i know, but i do what works.

| Hey ya do what ya got to do LOL. .....As far as cleaning to tank so good that's great for Bettas. They don't need cycled water. just as long as it's treated water. But the other fish do so I'm surprised they lived. LOL How nieve we are as children And being 64 years old myself I do consider 16 years old to still be a child. | |
