Okay these bugs happen to be in all my tanks have been for over a year now, I want them gone. But I must identify them first. There to small to take a picture of them, my eyes could barely get a good enough look. At first glance there black bettle like, but really there dark brown with alot of legs there about the size of a dot a very sharp pencil would make on a peice of paper. They live at the top of the water, they jump, and where theres one there is 50 or so. Easy to squish, but they never go away. Please help... I need a remity and id for my microscopic pests.

EEEW. I'm curious to read what others say. I've never seen this before.

I know what they are but not there name. You got them on some plants. Make sure no plants are floating on the surface and they should disappear. The bugs are very common of water lettuce. The bugs need the plants to live off of.

do they look like the ones at the bottom of this page(3rd one form the bottom):

http://www.planetinverts.com/what_is_that_bug_in_my_aquarium.html

I did some research and found these, they're called Springtails or Collembola if these are what you have in your tank. It also mentions its habitat on the surface just as Dr. Who described, but they aren't black bugs though.
