| sorry couldnt resist the smart @$$ comment. but i must say, im impressed that they would even carry such sought after species. perhaps hobbyists and conservationist efforts are finally taking effect with these rare and prized species. | |

| well even with with those african cichlids being sold there, im still not likely to get em. im happy with my mix tank of dwarf cichlids and small community fish. i like all my fish to be small (3-4 inch maximum is my limit). and even those guys pictured above are still too big for me and my preferences. | |

| They started this stock about 2 weeks ago. They have NO!!!!!! Knowledge about these beautiful fish. Its jusst another money making scheme. I ask different so called fish experts in the store about the tropheus and the cyphos fronts. they didn't no they tropheus needs excellent filtration and water parameters or that the demasoni are lil assasins. | |

| This is really cool. I'll have to check my local petsmart for some trophs. It amazes me that I can't find trophs at any LFS, they all have to be ordered online yet petsmart carries them? GO figure | |

| Careful homie..
I had an employee tell me himself that he wouldn't buy a guppie from one of these joints..
I had a bad experience, but at the same time found a lone Angelicus Loach on my lunch break that I still have to this day .... but just be careful...
Q-Tank mandatory,.. I like the mom and pops shops.... Cant handle the "Wal-Mart" dealers..
As far as supplies go, Doc Foster and Smith will send your supplies to your door for free if you buy $50 right now... Im thinking pads, some test equip., a little food and you're right there..... save your gas and time
They run an add here ;)... Peace JT
They're usually about 1/3 less price of pet stores too... win/win....

| maybe im just biased, but as far as big box stores are concerned, you get lucky every once in a while and you actually find a real expert working in the fish section. *probably cuz i used to work at Petsmart yeeeaaars ago* but a good indicator if youre talking to someone who knows their fish stuff is if they arent TextBook advice givers and give you personal anecdotes instead. fish expert cant call oneself a expert if ones never owned fish. (having a betta once in a jar doesnt count, nor do goldfish tanks) | |

| I have, as a matter of fact, purchased many fish from several local PetSmarts. That's the only place I can find cardinal tetras that live longer than a week after I get them home, and I have several right now that are years old from PetSmart.
Mostly they don't carry the species I'm interested in, but I don't rule them out as a source. It really depends on the particular store and how important it is to them to hire fish people who know what they're doing.
I saw some tropheus at my PetSmart last night, but I really wonder if they are taking the time to feed them the strict herbivorous diet they require..... Fish with "special needs" might not be the best choice for that kind of big box pet store!

| My local petsmart started carrying those fish about 3 weeks ago, they didn't even have the little signs telling people what they were. Someone had to draw a little picture and label them. I should have taken a picture of that. My local store also started carrying Red Texas and Flowerhorns. | |

and yea you should have taken a picture of the home made sign. Petsmart carrying Red Texas? Hmmmmm. I'd have to see this to believe it. I'm HIGHLY doubting they were actually Red Texas. I've never known of a mass breeder of Red Texas in the states or even know of one really that's even overseas. These are fish that are extremely high in demand and very pricey. My Red Texas that's in my avatar I got from a breeder overseas when he was about 2" and they only usually offer them in really limited quantities. The size he is now he's easily a $250-300 fish. If you could snap a pic next time they have them I'd love to see them. I'd personally call up that Petsmart and have them ship to my house from their wholesaler.

| My Petsmart only had like 3 red texas and I think they were $6.99 each. They were tiny though, only about an inch. If they are worth that much, maybe I'll pick some up just to grow them out. | |

| For those of you that have koi, every now and then a nice one will slide thru, about 6 months ago I walked in to pick up some food items and to my surprice they had a perfect and I mean perfect kikisui koi for 8.95 in their small to medium tank, I have grown that fish to almost 6 inches from the 4 he was and I was just offered 200.00 for that same fish. | |

| I stopped at one of the stores in s. ft worth area last week and they had the trophs, fronts, and red texas. Checked my local store earlier this week and they had three types of trophs (no duboisi in stock at either though), demasoni, cyno afras, fronts, rams, red texas, julidochromis, and flowerhorns. I bought a leleupi at a petsmart about 15 years ago....never seen them since and I thought that was exotic at the time.
They only had 3 of the trophs of each type so it seems buying them would be a recipe for disaster as I have always heard to purchase them as large colonies or the risk of losing added fish is really high.
