I'm torn on what to do. I wanted to try out African Cichlids and wanted to get the less agressive species. I've seen some beautiful photos of Peacocks so I thought I would start with them. Then I saw some advice that said not to mix Peacock species because you might get hybrids as offspring. I don't want to do that.

On the one hand I think it would be fun to get a breeding pair of some kind of beautiful cichlid and see what that's like.
On the other hand it might be really spectacular to have a lot of colorful male fish.

If I go the breeding route:
Would love to hear experience with breeding peacocks and what else you can have in the tank with them. What I figured I would do is get six or so (not knowing sex) and then once I find out who the males are I would keep one and give the rest away and keep two or three females. But would that be all I should put in my 110 gallon tank or can I put in some haps and maybe mbunas (but saw some advice that this would be a bad idea with peacocks)

If I go the purely show route:
What is experience with a high number of males in tank - even of the same species? Wouldn't they just tear each other apart? How many females would I need to keep - not with the intention to breed - but just to keep the peace?
