| First topic message reminder :Well I had a pair of kribs spawn for me in march of 2010. I gave away most of the fish except for about 10 of them and threw them in a community at an 1". The pair that spawned I no longer have but I do have these guys. Offsprings offspring lol. I also have another pair that spawned a month ago and the fry are getting nice size. Male guarding fry he is maybe 2" The female guarding fry she is 1 1/2" | |

| With a few days thought 'under my belt'... ........everything you say Kash is an excuse to 'bounce around' the fact that genetic flaws need to not be 'increased'... .......Kashon.. you say, excuses... to justify..... the flaws...... that even you dont dispute...:) .......the path to hell is pave with good intentions.....ya dig... .........................as i get older...as a 'hunter'... I enjoy the 'muddy camo' that allows life to live peacefully..... A scientist would say..... if a 'restricted population' was at 'hand'.... and began to inbreed ............these colors...........would show up.............. and in nature, be killed off.... (do not confuse this killing with a """"""""smashing on the ground"""""""""""..... You feel me?...... go back to when you were a baby and watched Jurassic Park... ...........remember slick in the leathers.... "they were so caught up with whether they could, they didnt think if they should"..............Peace JT ............I do wish you 'most comfort'... friend :) | |

| you sir are no "Ian Malcolm" im not trying to bring back a extinct species from scratch
i am hunter, hobbyist, biologist, and a Hindu.
your argument is very credible as you certainly have a clear expert understanding of the science, your wagging finger humbles me. i am Not attempting to act as a conservationist for the Kribensis cichlid, im ashamed that i am breeding and selecting genes as a hobby (kinda like Whisper does with her "Show" Bettas; clearly her bright yellow or fiery red bettas wouldnt last a day in the wild, shame on her for her cruel breeding practices, right?)
but surely as your argument stands brightly colored Kribensis specimens with their ruby throats, pomegranite-wine colored bellies and rich gold and creme bodies wouldnt survive in the wild as they already do.
neither should brightly colored pea-fowl indigenous to Asia be able to survive with heavy tail feathers colored like the rainbow be able to thrive when mongoose and snakes abound in the jungles of India.
but alas i and every other hobbyist breeder should take heed of your well thought out opinion and cease the hobbyist's folly of trying to breed a more aesthetically and genetically appealing specimen to trade to other hobbyists for fear they might introduce them in the wild or heaven forbid; tamper with Nature's Fabric.
but what do i know with my silly college degree in Biology with a concentration in Genetics. perhaps i should drop out of my Masters program in Agricultural biology at your behest and take courses in Morality and Underwater Basket-Weaving 101. but no worries i have already taken my required Ethics courses.

| I would be on that list too. Our peers voted an Ebjd for pic of the month in September(my fish). There is such a grey area on this subject. Always does it lead to this...... Everyone does it if you have fish in aquaria, your god did not tell you to get a aquarium and keep a certain kind of fish in them. So in nature none of those fish would be sitting in your house. If you really want to go there, fish should be just for suppliment imo (even though I hate seafood). | |

Why don't you try to get a group buy in with some locals?

| last month i sold off 9 of my kribs and 3 n. brichardi for credit at my lfs. kept 3 of the best looking ones. lots of eye spots on the caudal and dorsal fins(ill post pics in a separate thread soon). since then without any competition my kribs grew fast; two out the 3 i think have formed a bond and are displaying mating behaviour.
the kribs will be exactly 1 yr old this April 1st, looks like im going to have to wait a while for your scarlet kribs. but i suppose it works out, one good line breed will give me exactly what i want as far eye spots are concerned. this way i can really do some superb specimen culling

| I still have some of the same size females as the ones that just spawned with eye spots . Maybe 6-8 left. They are a year this month. | |

| believe me im sooo tempted. but i havent done any line breeds so far. the parent generation i only got 2 spawns from them, and only this latter spawn survived to maturity. so i need to get a bit of legacy out of those two. right now the 3 indvs havent formed any sort of solid bonds. i think i have 2 females and 1 male, but the 2 females are paired up and beat on the male.
weird, but im thinking they havent fully developed their sexual dimorphic characteristics, so i could be completely wrong on gender. i should probably start giving them blood worms.

| I should still have kribs for a long while. They constantly spawn for me so I should have some when you're ready. | |
