| Just helping a user.
From Olive Today at 2:35 pm
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- god i hope this is the chat line cause i have been sending people private mesages accidently. What i want to ask someone is that,I have a mating pair of Jack Dempseys and they keep laying eggs,i'm tring to breed these things but for the third time now after about 2months of the fry staying in the same tank asthe parents (55g) it seems like the mom gets irritated and wants them out so her & papa can get it on again! So slowly within like3 or 4 days i notice the parents are eating them,i heard they eat the weaklings but most 200 were healthy...so i was wondering if i could tke those eggs out of the tank and put them in their own 10 or 20g tank with air bubbles do you think that might work out better?I need someones opinion quick cause she just layed more today...HELP!

| A lot of choices I would advise some of them follow. You can move the eggs to a new tank as soon as there laid and keep a good flow on them and add some anti fungus meds to the take. You can keep them with the parents and take them out once they begin to free swim. You can feed the parents heavily so there never hungry and re arrange the tank a little so they don't feel like breeding.
Hoep that helps | |

| Your best bet is to let the fan them Untill they become wigglers. Then wait Untill you get them free swimming and then syphon them out with a vacuum , don't wait to long after they go free swimming because they are pretty strong swimmers. Also leave about 30 or so fry in with the parents so the female can recover from spawning. If you remove them right after the male will terrorize her. 2-3 weeks should be plenty of time between each spawn. Good luck. Oh and prefilters on intakes. When lights go out they tend to get sucked in them. | |
