A few months ago I adopted a pair of regular Jacks. I normally don't keep aggressive type fish but I had always wanted a Jack. The pair I adopted was amazing. The male is at least 6 inches in size and has that beefy look to him haha. The female is smaller but lets just say she holds her own. They went into one of my 40 gallon breeder tanks with a PFS bottom. Somewhat surprising was how the pair acted together. They swim, eat, hide, play together. Very little fighting takes place and it is normally the male that goes to another hideout while the female keeps their normal cave occupied haha. I have yet to have this pair breed for me but I don't suspect it will take much longer.

Then only a week ago I was lucky enough to get a proven pair of blue gene Jacks from a local breeder. (thanks again!) I came home today to find they had completed their first spawn for me. They are alone in a 35 gallon bare bottom tank again with terracotta pots and seem very happy!
They will pick on one another from time to time but nothing harmful. I am going to guess there are well over 200-300 eggs laid and hopefully the male has done his job. The female as you can see in the pictures is currently protecting the spawn. With any luck I will have some nice fry up and coming! Here are a few pictures of the pair and their new eggs. I'll keep everyone updated as always.

Good job with the pair! Jds grow pretty quick. Find new homes for them or begin population control. Keep us updated.

Nice. I miss my Jacks and have thought about starting a tank up for some again.
