This is probably the results of someone not wanting it anymore and so they just through it in the nearest water source. As far as the State record I'm with you. What? How does that work?

man im going to get the state record for oscar. him going to feed him minnows ever day and then hook him to my line and claim my prize. lol. (i am not saying that is what this guy did tho)

That is the biggest pleco I've ever seen! You'd have to have a tank the size of a swimming pool for that guy! LOL!
I feel bad for him tho...he didn't ask to be dumped in the river. Death was a harsh sentence for him, but was better than him destroying native habitat. When will people learn? Tsk!

Guys that is a big pleco but nowhere near as big as I've seen them in that river or the head waters (Landa Park). I frequent that area when I go snorkeling. Greg Steeves and I saw a pleco 1/2 in a cave one day at the bottom of the lake and the 1/2 that was sticking out of the cave was every bit as long as that. The next time I go I'll find that cave (they are territorial) so no doubt he'll be near that area. I'll catch him with my bare hands and re-set the state record! Wonder how much money that would be worth. I'll get Greg or someone to film the entire thing and make it Youtube official!

Now as for him dying, sad, but the habitat is in major danger there are millions of them in that water. We've seen them in nests and when you get closer they have 1000's of fry in them because there are no known predators for them and the "Green" food supply is everywhere. Not to mention the head waters comes from underground so the water is pretty stable temperature wise. It's the same in the summer and winter (for the most part).
