Please help me figure out whats wrong with him!

I have a beautiful Fancy goldfish in a 55g tank. I also have a smaller Veil tail Goldfish, a small Pleco and a African Clawed Frog. I have 2 driftwood pieces in the tank when I first started it about a week ago, and I think he may have bumped his head on one of the pieces. I removed these pieces, and added just a few plants and a bubbling barrel. The spot on his head was a small little gash, and it didn't look that bad at first. Now, 3-4 days later. It is a HUGE gash with white stuff coming out of it (it could be some kind of tissue) Someone told me to treat for Ich, but I have now established that it is definitely not Ich. The spot has grown immensely over the last few days, and I have attached pictures to show you. At first like I said, I thought it could have been a form of Ich, then I thought maybe Hole iN THE Head disease, but I'm not for sure. I have done a 50% water change when I treated for Ich, and vacuumed well. I have been adding Aquarium Salt quiet frequently. Please tell me what else I should do for him or what you think it may be. I am very, very stressed and worried.

Pictures 3 and 5 are pictures I took yesterday, and the others are ones I just took a few minutes ago. You can see it's really gotten worse!

What are your water parameters? What is your feeding a water change schedule? Looks like a fungus to me.

looks like hole in the head to me. this has happend to a couple of my angel fish, i dont know how to fix it both my fish died. sorry, your fish has to go through that.

just a check up cince you last posted a month ago. i hope your situation got better. if not then Euthanization my friend is likely the optimal solution. put the poor guy outta his misery and this way you curb any infection spreading to your other fish. for large fish the easiest and most painless way to ease suffering is the freezer.

this of course may be a last resort for you.

They went to a goldfish forum and got help there. I know that post got a lot of attention and the poster got a tremendous amount of help. I just went and checked on the status of the fish and it looks like the help he/she got worked wonders. Was a good story to follow!
