I have a rena xp4 canister filter I bought new about 3 years ago. It has been used for fresh water ever since it was new. So far the only things that have been replaced is the Hawley that seals the top to the bottom and the metal shaft for the propeller. It was working fine when I tour down my 90 gallon a few months ago, but when I set it back up last month on another tank I noticed it was working in reverse. I double checked the hoses and they where hooked up in the proper place. I'm confused on how this would have happened. Is it time too buy a new one or is there a way to try to fix this one?

Nope never took it apart more then to clean out. Propeller, and shaft stayed together. Plan on looking at it more tonight.

That is weird...

I have a Rena xp2 and i just tried reversing the plug to see if it would run backwards lol it ran normally. I didn't think it would because it’s an AC motor....

I would check the rotor and impeller make sure it’s not bent or binding, and make sure the impeller cover is seated. Also check and make sure something isn't clogged back pressure could also cause it to run weird.

If everything is fine i would try replacing the impeller.

I pulled it apart last night to look at it. I never replaced the impeler, and I noticed the center shaft was worn badly. Also noticed the last few times I cleaned it out the cap for the impeler has not been seated all the way. I think (hope) if I replace these parts it will fix my problem.

Well I found the problem a while back forgot to let everyone know. I feel really stupid! I took it apart again to clean and replace the impeler and noticed when I took down the 90g and cleaned the fitler, I put the colored nipples back in backwards. I know.. DOAH!
