| If you bring your own bags... you can bag up about 30-40 bettas and out them in a shoe box then check out....I have never seen anyone work in the pet section of any walmart. If you are paying full price for the betta I would leave it I know it sounds mean, but if you buy it they think that the fish are being sold and will continue to stock them. If you steal them well you run the chance of getting caught and going to jail so I would memorize PETAs phone number first. | |

| One of the reasons these type of stores still carry them is because there are so many people ( the general public)that buy them and have absolutely no idea what a good Betta should look like nor do they know anything about them. I have seen people post pictures of Bettas that they just bought and think it is the most wonderful thing on earth when in reality to the trained eye this is the worst looking thing you could imagine. These fish are all imported from Asia ( Asians being the worlds largest exporters of Bettas)and are the Asian breeders rejects. They are usually very old fish, sick fish, out bred fish, or not the color they want for showing them. So in short as long as the Asians are making money and the chain stores are making money it will continue. | |

| lessons in efforts of futility complaining about walmart fish. in many respects walmart serves a need, what ever ethics you try to assign is a lost cause, while id never buy a fish from walmart (unless it was an exceptional specimen; highly unlikely of course, and quarantined for two weeks) Also as i am not a fan of hybrid fish, inferior specimens, puppy mills, kfc's treatment of chickens, *insert any other common PETA rant* , etc... i would never personally endorse them . however, i fight to death for right to purchase, keep them, and eat them (not in that respective collective sequence of events of course ). im in Voltaire's school of thought on this subject. | |

im in Voltaire's school of thought on this subject. I completely agree with this! It shouldn't matter what your a fan of or what you like. Bottom line is its a fish, and we are all fish lovers here. And I as well would fight for anyone to purchase any kind of fish they so choose to. Even if you live in canada and its a Snakehead!

Snakeheads are a swimming/walking disaster. If people own them, they'll end up in the ecosystem (it happens with every captive animal.)

| every once in a while they got a diamond in the rough at walmart. last week i picked up a pure colored dark blue male guppy. it had ick to no surprise, but i raised the temp to 90*F and added a lil salt and voila. although it is few and far between when i do patronize walmart for fish. | |

| the Walmarts in my town still do. They carry some things that the LFS's don't, but their reputation keeps me away. Their silver-tipped sharks are tempting tho... and i could use another vacuum
edit: black tipped shark? hi-finned shark? i Don't remember... it's some sort of sharp looking catfish

| I also dislike walmarts mistreatment of their fish in general. But luckily i have found one walmart that seems to care. At my local walmart there is an old guy that never leaves the fish department and he is always checking the waters PH along with other things. I still feel bad for the betta but at least one guy at one walmart is trying lol | |

| The walmarts in this area gave up selling fish years ago....basically when they built the super centers. The store in the next town over must have been an oddity though as they had some very interesting fish at times (several species of julies, syno catfish, discus, etc.) and for the most part, were in as good of shape as what you would find at the LFS besides being overcrowded. | |
