| Hey everyone, I recently got some Ruti Island cichlids and Eureka Red Peacocks. I was wondering if I would need to put the cichlid salt they sell at stores in the water. I have 2 small pieces of holey rock in there now. I'm still kind of new to cichlids so any info would be great. | |

| I have raised and breed cichlids for over 30 years. I buy non iodine salt from the grocery store. I put it in all my tanks, and have done so for years. | |

| I have Hai Reef Peacocks. The only time I would put any salt in my aquarium, When I find my fish a little sluggish or when I set up a new aquarium. Sometimes too much salt can cause the fish to get bloat!!!! Some hobbist say no but I am not willing to roll the dice on this one!! I am now keeping 7 different types of tropheus , 3 types of peacocks and 3 types of gobies. In the 14 years on keeping fish, I have used salt maybe 10 times. Weekly water changes and a good diet will keep your fish happy and healthy. NEVER OVER FEED YOUR FISH!!!!!! Feed twice daily no matter how much they beg when you go near the tank. BE STRONG, Do not let them F I S H you in!!!!!! LOL | |
