| I am thinking of buying a Fluval 305 from a guy, but don't know if it would work with my 55 gal tank. My question is do I need to drill holes for it? I've only ever used H.O.B. filters on freshwater and my overflow box with refugium on my saltwater tank. If I have just a standard 55 gal (KMX- it's the one you traded me) how does the Fluval attach and what's a good price for a used one? | |

| it would work great for your 55. you use tubeing to attch the intake to the canister. i am not sure what you are asking but it would be a good filter for a 55. | |

| 305 is okay for a 55 as long as you have an additional HOB or other filter with it. I like having a combo of a can + a HOB on anything 55 or larger.
No hole drilling etc... required. The can sits under the tank and tubes connect the can to the suction and the discharge units in the tank. Almost like an overflow box.....but everything is sealed and the pump is enclosed as part of the system.
If everything is there and working, a used 305 could go for $40-75 depending on condition....

| I agree with Nick, I run two or more filters on anything 55 or bigger (however, I like my tanks overstocked, so I have a need for more filtration). | |

| I've never used one. Let me know how you like it if you get it. |

| it should work just fine but as others suggested a second filter would be a good idea.
that filter works by having 2 tubes from teh cannister filter to an intake tube and a return tube inside of the tank. once it is installed and setup you have to prime it to get it going.
i have a marineland c-360 that i used for 2 weeks (while i set up my refugium on my 90) that i have listed for sale in the buy and sell area. the one i am getting rid of is rrated for 100 gallons and it worked wonders on my 90 and it was the only filter being used and i would still be using it if my tank had not been rr (reef ready).
the marinelan c-360 has a priming button on it to make it easier to get it going also. |
