| i have a ten gallon tank with one ghost shrimp left......im assuming that it is a female since i have seen her with what looks like eggs under her.....when i seen this i took her out of the tank and put her in a different one. well i never did find babies so put her back. now it looks like she has some again but i dont have any more besides her in the tank. how long will it take for them to mature before she has them? can she get pregnant being the only shrimp? should i leave her in the tank or take her out? this is my first time to have shrimp so im not really for sure | |

| a female shrimp (from my experience) will have eggs regularly, however they will not be fertile and develope into actual fry unless a male is there to fertilize them. I had a female prawn who would carry eggs every so often years ago, but she was the only one so they never developed. She died 3 yrs later at a hearty 3-4 inches long. | |

| i have a question about ghost shrimp. i have a female that is carrying berries but i can't see any black. i put her in her own tank since i just got them saturday and i wasnt sure if she would be having babies anytime soon. since i can't see any black should i put her back in with the others? is there a way to sex these shrimp? i bought 3 and the other 2 are quite a bit smaller than her. | |

| Females are larger than the males and will have a more rounded abdomen.
As for the eggs, if you got her when she was carrying, there is no telling how long she has been with eggs. If you want to try and have them hatch out, you will definately need to isolate her and keep her in tank with no filter and some air for current.
Ghosties hatch in a larval state. Though this period is short at around 24hrs. The catch is knowing what species of ghostie you may have. Some require brackish water to morph while others require freshwater. | |
