When to Capitalize Animal and Plant Names

I thought b/c it was a name both had to be in CAPS. I learn everyday.

Brings back the days of writing lab reports. Also, instead of repeating the entire species name throughout, you can abbreviate it. For example, who'd want to type Cryptocoryne wendtii every time in a post? You write it out entirely the first time you write it, and then you can refer to C. wendtii thereafter in the passage. That's how we wound up knowing E.coli, it's short for Eschericia coli.
