Well about two weeks ago I bought some Alge wafers and it got me thinking, how old is all my fish food? Well not proud of it but It's all over a year old, I have some spirulina flakes I bought in bulk from the LFS, and spectrum sinking pellets both 1 & 3mm (both jars practically full) well I'm gonna toss them and get new food but I'm interested in what you guys think on the subject. How old is too old? Also what brands do you like? I ask because I usually buy my Algae wafers at Walmart because it cheaper and from what I remember It's the same ingredients and the even have less ash.

I go by the smell test, if it smells rancid or stale toss it. If it smells like fish food then its good.

I get mine from Greg S. or Daves Cichlids. Both are sponsors here. I have had food for over 2 years sometimes that I find and I have never questioned it to be old. Im am not 100% sure but I am pretty sure that Spirulina flake , alge wafers stuf like that would have to take a long time to go bad. Wall mart food is poop

For my flake I use Kensfish.com (also a sponsor here)

I keep my fish foods in the frig. It keeps the food really fresh and from going bad early.

The fats are what goes bad. When you buy food you really don't know how long the food has been in a warehouse before it goes out. I have also read that putting fish in refrig or freezer changes the fats. Aquaculture mag. stated that. By the way I'm not picking on any supplier.
