i would periodically alternate the frenzy and some of the aqua vitro line literally every now and then just for a lil boost here and there ya know. i dont know why but i was thinkin i should stop..but my ..fish advisors if you will which ironically work at my LFS actually said i should probably cut back lol.. but we are personal friends also so ive seen their tanks and what they personally do and use and their tanks are amazing lol so i trust up generally speaking, i still do my homework though lol but i had a problem with nitrate and phosphates.. not high but not good either.. alot of "natural food" in my tank w/o me feeding so to speak. so basically corals filter out particles of stuff that has broken dwn in the water. well i only have 2 fish that i actually feed...clown and goby...got about idnt no but my sand and rock make up about half the tank maybe a lil less i havent used anything in about 3 mths, but the tank looks better..but im mainly lps, open brains.and acans and the clams.. got a few scattered shrooms and zoas..and a toadstool n the one in the photo.

as far as phosphates and nitrates I rarley have a problem with they are undetetable likely due to the fact I don't use power fiters of any kind I think thats one of the biggest mistake new reefers make that and buying junk I believe you get what you pay for in this hobby and in the long run it pays off and saves you money. I switch back and forth with what I feed as well I really like arctic pods and so do the fish and corals but you are right for a lack of a better way to say it I let the fish poop feed most of the time its a fine line when feeding or using any type of additives. one of the 1st rules I learned was sometimes its better to leave things alone aside from w/c's and regular maintenance and once you know your tank all you need to do is look at it and you can tell when something isn't right.
I just started keeping SPS's in the last year and it is so different from softys, zoas, and LPS I have to really keep on top of the mag.cal and alk right now I'm using a two part from BRS to dose and I'm keeping it right on but later I may add some reactors/dosing pumps and an Apex controller and let it do everything from topoffs, dosing, temp control, flow everything right from my computer I have some reefer friends who just installed them on their tanks recently so I'll see how they like it first.
