Lava Rock in FW tank?

Can this landscaping lava rock be used in a FW tank if it's boiled and sterilized?

Throw it in ,I have used it for several years no problems!

I would make sure you rinse it well for dirt and other crud, but it should be fine

clean it boil it, scrub it, and toss it in, it works and looks amazing!

Someone posted on here earlier about drilling holes in the big lava rocks real easy to do and makes great addition to your tanks. Plants love lava rocks also java moss/fern readily grab on to it as do anubias

I've had lava rocks in my tanks for years with no problems. The edges are sometimes sharp, so bigger fish that get skittish (like fronts) can get scrapped when trying to hide in/behind them. Keep that in mind.






I ended up taking the rocks out as my fronts and dolphins got bigger.

Angels do the same thing their long fins get torn by them.

OK thanks. I won't put it in the Angel tank. Maybe I can sand it down a little to go in the other tank.

I have a piece with Java Fern attached to it in with each of my male bettas. No problems. Works the best with Javas and Mosses. Pumic types are also the BEST for nitrifying bacteria colonization. You can use them for natural filtration if you have air stones placed under a pile of them

i have used them with no problems at all.. super price for them and you can drill holes in them if you want... just do it slowly...

just be ware that some floats and some sinks lol. my buddy found this out the hard way lol.

Well this one was free. It's a stone that some dumb a** threw through our store window one night. It's a nice one so I though I'd keep it. LOL Actually now that I think of it, it wasn't free cost use $500.00 to have the window replaced! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

But it will be a conversation starter. And my most expensive decoration is.......................

Yeah really. $500.00 for a piece of lava rock. LOL
