| people have always told me to use white vinegar but I can't find any in the food pantry... I do have something called heinz fruit and vegetable wash. "made with all natural vinegar"... is this safe to use. tank was a saltwater tank, want to clean it out and make it a for a freshwater tank. ingredients say distilled vinegar from sun ripened grain, water, salt, natural flavor, poly-sorbate 80(a natural ingredient to lossen surface residue)..... is this product safe to use to get salt off the tank. so my can have a home.( tetras cramed in a 25g, the 25g got upgraded to a 29g)... | |

| I use 'Mighty Orange' - it won't change the pH of the water.
Though on the rim of my brine shrimp bowl, I just use a damp towel.

| If I used it I would really rinse, rinse and rinse it out well let it soak for 24 hours in Prime then rinse again. (guess I get paranoid as I have lost to many fish to "natural safey products) Then again if you look at Prime doubled the main ingredient dose and you have a medical disinfectant. (metricide 14) which is becoming popular in the hobby. |

| Here's an excerpt I found for cleaning a previous saltwater tank to go freshwater.
"I found a system that works fantastic! (empty your tank, let it dry) You'll need "Baking soda" "Xacto knife blades" "hot water in a bucket" and of course a good clean rag.... I mixed about 10 table spoons of baking soda with hot water,, then dampened the salted glass with the wet rag,,, taking the blade and passing it on the glass, carefully not to cut your self,, and wow, it all came off,, using the soaked rag, on the aquarium sealant took the salt residue worked wonders,, then dry with clean cloth,,, wait for it to dry, you'll notice a smoky salt film,, ,just rub off with another dry clean cloth,, VOILA make sure to rinse your aquarium after."

| the veg wash is just vinager mixed with water and a chemical to keep it from seperating so it has a longer shelf life. Its waaaay watered down - I think 1:4 is the typical ratio for homemade, but if vinegar is the first ingredient then its obviously got more vinegar. but really, a huge gallon sized jug of vinegar is $2. I use it for alll kinds of household cleaning (and if you mix it with bakingsoda cool things happen! very fun for the kids!) | |

| it may sound crazy but i've always cleaned tanks when use the first time with soap and hot water, never had a problem with fish and the tank looks shiny and pure clean after rinsing with hot water for 5 mins..., but please don t take this advise cuz i know that its not safe at all... i do agree with the vinegar method.. | |
