| Ok so I'm finding with changing species ( from Bettas to Angels ) That I'm starting all over again learning. My question is is R/O water to clean for Angel fish? I want to take the best care of them just like I do my Bettas. Also if the day ever comes when I'm ready to breed them do they get bred to siblings like the Bettas or do they have to be out cross breeding's? | |

| I would not use straight R/O water in any tank . I use about 40% R/O to 60% well water. IMO ro is to " clean " for any fishes. | |

| Yes they make Amozon additives for angels and discus for RO water. I'm getting a unit only because our water is leaching copper and smelling odd killed all my mystery snails. |

| We have an R/O until so that's why I thought I would use it for them. I use it for the Bettas too. But I'll use the mix of R/O and treated if you think that's best for the Angels. Thanks. | |

| i would use half and half and buy to additive that the r/o water loses, like the minerals and all. theres this stuff called discuscode, it works great and angels live in the same water as discus so it wouldnt hurt them | |

| First off what is your hardness ??? mine here is 450 Angelfish and Discus eggs want hatch in that hard of water So I needed a R/O to get the hardness down to around 125 to get them to hatch So I mix 1/3rd tap and 2/3rds R/O As soon as there free swimming straight Tap And they will be in tap water until they are ready to breed and if I don't want them to breed they stay in TAP water Now don't waste your money on additives
PS dont forget to put in chlorine remove in the tap water
Sorry OOPS
That's just my 2 cent

| WOW Tx you use tap water with all the chlorine in it and you don't worry about the ammonia from the fish. By this really is going to different then the Bettas who have to be in pristine water at all times. | |

| My hardness out of tap is in the 300 range and I have had plenty of discus eggs hatch.... in the main tank so they got eaten but... they hatched just fine.
Ya less than 1/2 RO and the rest treated tap, you should also use prime with the RO just for S&G's.
The RO pulls out all the dissolved stuff in the water, most of that stuff buffers your PH. You need some of that stuff in there to help prevent PH swings. |

| in my opinion it all depends on water hardness, gh/kh play a important relationship. water changes play a important relationship too, --- carbon hardness it's your ph buffering power to help keep a stable ph.
for me with my angels, and discus I used straight tap with prime, and aged it for 24 hours... and got a few babies, and one time I even forgot to age the water and went straight tap with prime and had angelfish lay eggs, but didn't hatch and the eggs got ate.
also what's important to is getting the angelfish from a good hobbyist/breeder...... | |

| has anyone tested the filtered water found at the drinking water stations at the grocery store? I work near to a grocery store that has such a station. The process they say they use include ro, carbon filtration, like 7 steps. I wonder about the water quality, but it would sure be nice if it's good(convenient!) Tap water here has a moderate/high mineral content, so I do like a 60/40 mixture of ro water to cut that. | |
