| On a recent fishing trip(lake grapevine) I was throwing my cast net and happened upon 2 largemouth bass and 2 perch about 2 inches on the bass, an 1 inch on the perch. Since I wasnt catching any fish I decided to spare the lives of these fishes and add them to my pond with my turtle and goldfish. After my turtle escaped after the last rain and ran off to the creek behind my house I decided to put together a tank, hence the current 55 gallon I aquired from craigslist. The bass have been happily living with my current setup of oscars ciclids cory cats, plecos, and a dragon fish. All fish in my tank are about 1-2 inches, and the bass are eating machines which my kids love. They only eat feeders and I havent been able to get them to eat anything else. But they are really cool, I think i have 1 male and 1 female cause of the color. I'll try to post pics on here soon.

| I've got a mix of panfish - incuding three types of bass. They've all adapted to the mix of flakes well, but it did take a few days of them watching the sunfish/minnows eating before they decided the flakes were edible.
One thing that can work well is to pinch a large bunch of flakes between fingers and stick your fingers in the water. The movement of the flakes in your fingers gets them very excited to bite at the 'living mass'.
Make sure you've got a top on the tank. These young bass jump when they're going for their share of the food!

| Istrober, you made a big, BIG mistake releasing that fish! He most likely got sick from your other fish - and then passed his own parasites to them. By releasing him - you potentially exposed the entire ecosystem to a tropical bacterial/fungus/parasite... There's a good reason that the TWRA told me that they could only be released into a frying pan - it was to protect the native fish population from novel diseases/parisites. Here's the pic of my temporary setup. I will be moving these fish to at least a 55G when I can afford it. Plan to grow the panfish as well as the crayfish to very large sizes. Even if I have to cull half of them into the frying pan to make more room. [img] [/img] I do want to find some blue crayfish - any of you know who sells them? | |

| Just out of curiousity.....do you have any plans of keeping these guys long term? If so, you are going to need a monster tank to house them. | |

I do want to find some blue crayfish - any of you know who sells them? Well he probably had parasites after going into the tank, i didn't had enough experience back in that time so i got mad cuz he made my 7" albino oscar die.., i know it was a mistake but he was already on the water i couldn't do anything else lol...

| I'm eyeballing the 75G tank that the Earth Science teacher has two old minnows in. Everything's covered in a thick layer of algae, no hood, no lights. I'm trying to get to know him so that when the old minnows die off - I can offer a few bucks.
Planning to keep ALL of my classroom tanks/fish/ecosystem models long term. (Until I retire - say 20 years) Since I can use them in labs/research in any science they may assign me to teach (except physics - but I'm brainstorming there)... Would love to have the Bala's grow to 14", the Malawi's to 8" and the bass - to trophies.
May not have ALL the panfish to that size. As they get too big for the tank - I'll 'cull' the slower growing ones into a frying pan. Just leave the bigger ones. So I'm picturing a 55-75G tank with a couple Sun's, Perch, Bass and giant crayfish in ten years or so. Maybe add a native algae eater - if I catch one in my cast net.

| i keep a 250gal, with native kansas species in it, bass are my favorite, channel cats, and 1 little flathead as well, i like trying out different fishing lures on them, boy they tear up a tank when they get hooked, they act like it hurts them *(go figure), i am a avid fisherman, and its neat seeing how they react to different live baits/fake lures, i know some ppl will think its cruel, but ya know with all the filth thats in our lakes and waterways, they are living in heaven, its a small price for them to pay, plus i ate the channel cat, the other night, and he was delish | |

| Having those fish in Texas is illegal. The Bass is a game fish, which, here in Texas at least..carrys a huge fine, plus you cant get a hunting or fishing license for a few years. I worked for Texas Parks and Wildlife and we took more than a few people with those in a tank. You have to have a special licence used for education or official breeding/studying purpose. If word reached the game warden he went with us and we took the fish, and could have taken the tank also. Just be careful how word gets out | |
