| I think ive seen these fish at fish gallery
I'm not defending the OP but look at the beautiful OB peacocks and firefish in the hobby. They are popular and with the right strains they fetch premium price tag. These are not natural Malawi fish. I remember a 5" firefish at an auction this year it was bid by many folks and ended up nearly 60 bucks. I've owned both firefish and ob peacock so I can't really bash this dude

| theres a pet store here in San Antonio that sells hybrid haps and he says that its getting harder to sell cichlids sometimes due to, to many breeders that you can get them cheaper from, so he sells hybrids like this that are cheap to still make profit. I wonder what else are people working with those ob dolphins tripped me out. | |

| In addition to being worthless in the trade, hybridizing Cichlids is unethical, as far as I am concerned. | |

| If it happens in nature and produces a NATURAL strain, fine. Produced in tanks, no good. | |

| all of nature changes but it can take many lifetime for just a small change to occur. When you're changing DNA and total characteristics of an animal (or plant even) You are speeding up evolution and playing god. Just my opinion. Look at how many species have changed over 40 years. (ie the discus) and 40 years is not lifetimes. Now the amazon is shrinking and # of fish are dwindling are we going to have any pure discus to restock if we can get the enviorment back or are we going to restock with a hybrid? |

| All I can say is, wow.... yall really hate hybrids. And the comment about wishing a merry christmas and a power outage was a bit uncalled for IMO.
Rico, they are very pretty fish (though I dont like OB's), and I completely understand about having to make money.

| Can't stand hybrids in the hobby. I would not pay $70 for a pure bred fish let alone a hybrid. I cannot stand OB peacocks, firefish, blood parrots, flowerhorns, etc. The market for hybrids would not exist if responsible breeders and sellers did not try to sell them in the first place. The public would not know they exist and would not ask for more of them. The majority of people that purchase these kinds of fish are uninformed. The only LFS in my city besides the two chain stores has almost completely switched over to selling hybrids haps/peacocks full of hormones. I feel sorry for the people that purchase these glowing "males" at 1.5" only to find they are a female several months later assuming they survive that long. People will pay for quality most of the time if they can see the difference. There are several LFS in the austin area that I know of that manage their livestock to reflect this. I just do not see what the attraction is to purchase these hybrids...once you see a mature ngara, flavescent, azureus, etc...why would you want something inferior and man made? | |
