| So I have one batch of fry growing out, already about 1/3" in size and growing... Then I have a 20g with 3 holding females about to release... Then I check my Fulu tank and notice atleast another 3 females holding! and I mean HUGE holdings!!! Considering each batch is about 3 weeks apart, I have to keep them seperate, so that will be three tanks raising fry and then three larger tanks one they get size to them. Any suggestions on what to do with so much fry? Do people usually sell entire batches when tiny? or do you usually wait until they are a certain size? | |

| I do not see many fish go for sale before they reach 1/2" then it usual is 1-2" | |

| I would not count your eggs b4 they hatch.
I would grow them to a inch before you sell them. Unless you are doing a fry swap or something like that

| I know shipping would be an issue for fry, so I guess local fry sales are ok for those wanting to get a group cheap, otherwise grow out and sell online with shipping at an inch or so... | |

| Yes i would wait till they reach 1", try to sell it locally or also you can try taking it to a LFS and trade some fish... | |

| Most LFS's don't deal with this level of fish, Vics and similar... they don't have that level of hobbyist going to these stores looking for fish... already tried talking to several store owners I know. Will have to try other things ... I know lately everyone I meet to buy tanks from, or sell fish to, i've been telling to come onto and hopefully I can get more locals into the mix hopefully broaden our local market... I keep seeing random people on the street and I stop them and tell them, hey, if you like fish, you're invited to my friend Isaac's house for ribs | |

| Very nice. pull those last 3 then let them spit in the tank for a bit. They need to be over 1" to ship or even sell pretty much. Let me know if you need some help with any culling, Fred loves culling day I told you they would breed well for you! |

| I think you would be ok keeping most of the fry in the same tank. I have 3 different female peacocks spawning two weeks apart and have been keeping them all together in one tank with no loss. As long as the bigger fish cant eat the smaller ones I think you will be ok. | |

| Agree with addicted.
Also, If those store owners knew the history about the fish and that they are on the red list.....They might want them. | |

| Yup. I've kept two-three different batches in the same tank without issue. Just watch when they start to get bigger though because the runts will get picked on or eaten. | |

| I wouldn't put more than 4 batches in a 10g, it gets too crowded too quick if you put too many. Let the runts get picked on and eaten, you really don't want runts, let some Darwinism go on in there |

| the first batch will be in a 10g within a couple days, they are over 1/2" now!
the next three batches will be in the 20g high.
if everything goes well, I may eventually move them all into the 29g where the convicts are now, and then move the other 3+ females holding into the 20g high.
not like i'm counting my eggs before they hatch or anything =)

| True runts are the the weakest. I'm just trying to keep fish count up! As far as how to get rid of them, I've got a few tanks in mind... | |

| So after a coupe weeks of having 3 holding females in a 20g holding tank, they were chasing each other around too much and I didn't want to risk any accidents, so I stripped them all today, just a few minutes ago. medium girl, about 3 1/4" gave 29 healthy babies larger girl, about 4 1/4" gave 19 healthy babies and what looked like 7 unfertilized eggs small girl, about 2 3/4" gave 16 huge healthy babies that's 64 total, all free swimmers... going into a 20g long with a sponge filter, being dripped at the moment. Also slowly acclimated the 3 females and put them back into the breeder group tank, and also pulled out the next 3 holding females and acclimated them into the 20g holding tank. My first batch of fry are already about 3/4" long on average, some a bit larger, so i'll be posting them soon. Looking forward to raise a group of the original batch, which I believe would be F2, and then breed those and get F3's. Will probably sell off the adult group in a couple months tops, probably after a few more clutches. Can't believe how fast all this has gone on! | |
