Betta changing colors??? different fins?

I have a blue and white butterfly halfmoon male which was one of the most impresive I have ever kept personally.

His body was a blueish green, this color went to all fins about 1/3 of the way down, then the other 2/3's was white.

Was one of the most perfect butterflys I have ever seen in regards to the line between both colors... was so bold, stark...perfect.

So now, a few months after getting him, I go to look in his tank, and suddenly there is no longer any color distinction in his fins! It's all marbled blue and white!

What the heck happened!?!



I've seen this before recently in two seperate white combtails.

I had them for a month or more when suddenly one developed pink striations in its fins, the other, blue.

I then changed the gravel to match and bring out these colors, but at the same time wondered why it would happen.

I feed a variety of betta pellets and flakes mixed in one container. Keep the water clean.


Any experience with this?

Bettas can constantly change in there coloration especially as they mature. Nothing is wrong it's a natural process.

From fry to maturity they will change. A Betta is full grown at a year old.

? not sure what you mean... I also commented about something similar happening to white combtails... they developed some colored veining in the fins..

Oh yes you'll have that. That is one reason why a pure white is very rare and goes for big money...............The male in my avatar at first we thought he was a PK. So I entered him in a show last year as a PK. He took first place in his class of New Breeders. Then suddenly a few months later he blossomed out with his beautiful finage that he has now. So I entered him again in a show in California in the Single tail HM class for New Breeders. He took first in that class also. LOL Go figure. So it goes to show that they are ever changing as they grow.

Yes they do change quite a bit as they get older, I have seen it in both of my boys. They do change some after a year old just not as much.
I need to get new pics of Opal and Purkle and do then and now pics on them! The change is impressive!
