I snapped a pic of the pond yesterday. It is so covered in leaves. I love fall and think it is just so pretty. Late in the summer I got in there and put a heavy duty tarp on the dam and replaced all the rocks so that the water has to fill up to the top of the spillway now where before it just flowed through the dam. It raised the water up 6-8 inches deeper.

Here is the pic...

Yeah it is about 15' w x 40' L but only a little more than knee deep at the dam.

Thanks! They were already there. I just rolled them back and put down the tarp and put them back in place. I just tried to keep it as natural looking as possible.

We are starting to get ducks back again. Since the pond doesn't freeze (spring fed from underground) we get more ducks the colder it gets, LOL. Last winter we counted 16 at once. The other day we were up to 8.

It never freezes. It is fed from at least two underground springs. It stays about 45* all year round. It is so cool in the dead of winter when the ducks swim they break the water surface & steam comes out because the air is only like 2* and the water is 45*.

We bought like $60 worth of 2-3" goldfish at the beginning of summer but haven't seen them really since. If I stir up the dirt at the bottom I can usually turn up a couple. So I'm hoping that they grow over the winter and that I can actually see & enjoy them next year.

I keep watching CL for people who say their pond fish are too big and need to be gotten rid of but they are always too far away on a weekend that I can't go get them before someone else does :(

We also have a heron that visits our pond for snacks! And I have heard that ducks will much on fish too if small enough.

We have a pond with Koi and goldfish that winter over. you have to fatten them up good in the fall with a high carb food. which we feed them.

Besides....if my water is the same temp year round would that really affect them in the winter? Just thought about that!

Depends on your water temp. Fish should not be fed below 52 degrees. I have a floating thermometer in my pond so I see what the temp is. If you can't see your fish and you start training them to eat the food you through in for them they will come to the food in a feeding frenzy once they get used to it. Use the floating kind so you will see the fish when they eat.
