| I have a guppy tank and the water is so very green. I did a partial yesterday to try and get it back to normal and I woke up today and it is green again. There isn't any algae growing on the glass or anything else in there, it is just the water that is green. Please help! There is a good filtration system and plenty of oxygen. I cannot think of what it would be. I cant put certain chemicals in because I have frogs and snails in the tank too. | |

| take pictures if that is an option. It is an algae bloom. I had this happen once. I tried everything, eventually I had to tear it down, get rid of the rocks and deep clean everything else. Good Luck. | |

| Ok if you don't have any live plants do the black out method. No light for 3-5 days. The fish and snails will be fine with it not sure on the frogs though. If it is near a window pull the curtain closed or tape paper to the tank to block the light. dont block the air though. Get some 50 micron filter cloth and use it to pull the algae out of the water. You will have to wash it daily though as it will clog up quick. If you have a UV filter hook it up and run it. It will kill the free floating algae and will help clear it up faster. Cut way down on feeding, overfeeding is usually a factor in green water. Only feed the necessary minimum amount for a week or so. 25% or grater water changes daily. There is no need to use chemicals for this. Just maintenance and time. It is not harmful to your fish they will be fine. Good luck and keep us updated |

| Ya... I'm dealing with a touch of that and organic foam in my 75g..... It sucks but it can be dealt with without using chemicals. |

| Ahhhhh! I am going to do another water change shortly. I left for a few hours and came back and it was way greener. Then let the blackout begin. | |

| As suggested before.... You might consider a complete break down and a overall cleaning. Good luck to you! | |

| One important thing i wanted to ask you.. is there any sunlight hitting the aquarium? also what type of filtration do you have? Fern has very good suggestions. However, if you do decide to go with a chemical one that i have used and that has not damaged any invertebrates is called accu-clear by API. If you decide to use it i recommend you use less than recommended. It cleans up algae and cloudy water as well. What this chemical does is that it attaches to the small algae particals that are too small for most filters (unless you are using a micron cartridge) and it makes them bigger. As soon as you add the chemical expect the water to turn clowdy white. but then it will start clearing up. | |

| The sun plays a huge part in making your tank green. I would stay away from chemical use. | |

| the tank is not near any sunlight. I did a total clean again today and so far so good. It has a great filter. I cleaned all the rock out, the plants, the filter, everything. Hopefully this will help. The blackout has begun and I am going to cut back on feeding. We will see how it goes. | |

| Get the 50 micron filter cloth it will help filter out the algae. Just wash it daily, I just hold it up to my faucet and use the water pressure to clean it out good. Don't worry about the chlorine, it will kill any missed algae. Just rinse it in some conditioned water before you put it back in the tank. This will help clear it up much faster. It is handy to use for any kind of cloudiness in your water so it will have many uses after this There should be no need for a total tear down, the fish are fine, its just yourself that has an issue with it so be patient. |

| Over-feed'n can be a factor here.
My fish act like they are starv'n 2 min after I feed them.
Ya just got to ignore them, no matter how sad they look!

| I've had this before. Change your 33% every day for a week. Then clean out your filters and add new activated carbon. Next, if it is still dirty, add some brazilian waterweeds. | |

| wow too bad you dont have a diatomagic diatomamacheos(??) powder filter. I use one whenever i get a green tank.. within an hour it is completely filtered out. it is sometimes called a water polisher, lol. water chgs will clear it up. also use lots of floss in your filter.. | |
