| First topic message reminder : Today is the day! Stripped several fish today, Long pelvic fin, Paracyphs, Cyphs and Cyphos Moba. Long Pelvic Fin Galireya Reef She must be holding 30+. So much fry for a small momma Paracyphs and Cyphs. Only 4 for the paracyphs...just glad to know they start spawning Nice Clutch from the cyphs utinta! Moba Not a whole lot but this momma holds consistenly. Now let's see y'alls strip! | |

| I do now. I use AquaSafe. I used to be able to do water changes without any because I had natural spring water which was tested all the time. I will be again going back to well water instead of city water very soon! I just can't believe that the content of your water would kill fry. It must be wicked city water. | |

| And yes CoutureWest, the females hold the eggs in their mouth until they hatch and are grow enough to let go. You can strip them before they "spit" though, to ensure that none of the young are eaten. It also gives you a quicker breeding rate. Not all fish breed like this. There are also egg layers, egg scatterers, and bubble nesters. | |

Yes, mouthbrooding cichlid do keep the eggs in their mouth until the are fry swimming and ready to be released. They do not swallow them eggs, they developed this technique to make the odds of their species surviving a whole lot greater. Some cichlids are egg layers... I can smell chlorine off the tap, I can tell you that. I always do 50% water changes on all my tanks...anything less is just waste of my time. | |
