This summer thought I would try something different in the 100g water trough / pond. Placed a heater in just in case seeing as weather here isn't always that "dependable", some java moss (has went crazy!! couple handfuls has turned into 2gallon buckets worth), few floating pond plants, extra misc fake plants just floating, some sunset mickey mouse platys and various female guppys along with a couple wild colored moscows. Then as I was cleaning house tanks a few more got thrown into the pond (females) and this lil' experiment has gotten close to out of control LOL going to have to set up the extra tanks in the garage for all of them so have more space to seperate out who and what.

On another note had a whole lot of yellow's/yellow variances show up which have yet to figure out who's lines this gene showed from up as my base stock has/was very consistent no "pet store" stock. So figure since there are at least 3 dozen of them when I bring them in for the winter I'll seperate them out and see what happens.

As for the platys they weren't/haven't been quite as prolific as the guppys but do have lots of youngsters. When the time comes though bringing everyone in for the winter is going to be a project in itself LOL at feeding time there are literally 100's of baby's

Was at a friends recently who also is doing the outdoor guppy ponds, quite interesting as they've gotten some really wild colored ones but they've had good luck too, also dreading the "invasion of the guppys" as fall hits LOL

Shay, I have a 350g. outdoor Koi pond. Last year I put guppies in it. The females grew to a huge size out there and had thousands of babies by the end of the summer. Same thing with my trap door snails. I put them in every year and they grow three times the size of the ones in the house tanks. The sides of the pond are full of algae so they eat constantly on that.

When I do water changes for them haven't been scrubbing the walls leaving the algea for them also, they seem to enjoy it. Don't have any snails out there simply because when I had some they got out of control a few years ago and when the fancy goldy's move in for winter they finally got them eradicated. Usually put some killifish out for the summer as they do extremely well this was just something different and the neighbor kids are enjoying watching all the fry when they stand around watching LOL

Have noticed that the females out there are quite large, though my base stock when I started with working guppys again all the original females were lunkers and the females/males that don't show good growth are culled which the larger residents around here love to see the "lil blue net".

Tried to get some pics the trough/pond isn't the best for photos, think I'll just take a sweep with the net to show some of the residents, or maybe try to light it up after the sun goes down and see how that works.
