Most of the water conditioners i have seen say they not only take out or bind up chlorine and chloramine but also heavy metals. Now is this the same nutrients the plants need that the conditioner is removing?

I dont beleive they are the same. Some heavy metals can be hard on a fishes system.

The heavy metals they tend to refer to are mercury, iron (not ferrous), lead and the harmful stuff.
