Ok so I've had these two together for about three months now and nothing. They are in a bare bottom tank with only the bottom suacer of a terracotta pot inverted with a opening so they can get in. At first the female stayed in it now the males stays in it Only one goes in at a time. Should I have gravel on the bottom of the tank? They get a small amount of fresh water every day.

Ok first what kind of plecos?

can they both fit in the cave you have?
Can the male block the female in?
How big are they?

My lfabn's breed just fine in a bare bottom tank, I feed them algae wafers, nls thera A, blood worms and zucchini.

give them a bit of drift wood to chew on and other than that you've got it all set up to their liking, it will just take time....

I had driftwood in there but took it out because one or the other was just using it to hang around on. I took it out thinking that would force them to get together. Guess not. LOL

They like to eat bits of it. If the male has taken the cave that's a good sign, once the female plumps up with eggs she will start hanging near the cave and the male will entice her in and trap her till she lays all her eggs then kick her out. The male does all the work and once you have fry you can leave them in with the parents and they will be fine. I have 3 batches of fry in a 33g long with my adults.
