We recently purchased a butterfly pleco l052 and I cannot seem to find something for him to eat. I can't seem to get him to eat nls, algae tabs, or woody vegetables. How the heck do I condition him to eat something before he starves to death.

The Butterfly pleco primarily eats algae in the wild. Never force it to survive on natural algae growth only in the aquarium; always supplement with more food to make sure that your fish gets enough nutrients. You can for instance used algae based prepared food as a base and combine it with plenty of vegetables, such as zucchini, cucumber, potatoes and green peas. Wood should always be included in the aquarium set up. Also give your Butterfly pleco small and infrequent servings of meaty food. Since the Butterfly pleco is a nocturnal species, it should ideal be fed after lights-out in the evening.

Are your parameters close to what is called for?
Are there any aggressors in the tank?
Does he have a good place to hide?
Have you target fed him?
How long has he been without eating?

The water is just tap there are semi aggressive fish and tons of caves but he won't use them he just sticks to the glass and I have put food close to where he stays and a flat surface where the others don't go. It has been a week or so since he hasn't ate

Give him a lean-to against the glass to hide in. A week isn't too bad, how big is he?

I have had mine for over a year now and have never seen him come out to eat ever, he's always hiding in his log but he's getting fatter and fatter. I really have no clue what he eat but he's eating something if he's growing and lasting this long... honestly i wouldnt worry about too much, if they get really hungry then they will eat. Just drop an algae wafer or two in before lights out, chances are they like to eat at night.
