PostSubject: Garage setups   Garage setups Icon_minitime7/1/2010, 9:41 am

Just moved into my new place this weekend. I might have some garage space for a stack or two of aquariums. I know there are many folks that run aquariums in Texas garages (Hong / Khrister).
What are your typical water temperatures in August?
Do you use fans to move the air over the tanks?
Is it tough to keep the water warm in the winter?
How about concerns of the water attracting bugs or mosquitos?
Thanks!

Shouldn't be an issue. I leave a crack in the garage door before I leave. I would also suggest a dehumidifier. It has helped tremendously.

Without a portable A/C unit I run 84-86 in summer. I have a 14000 BTU unit that I set at 80 for summer. Winter heat is provided by a dehumidifier, I have no heaters in any of the 40 tanks. I run about 72 in winter. All lids are always open, too many tanks to open and close at feeding time. Insulate well and that will go a long way to keeping your temps stable. Srping and fall tank temps are controlled by how much to doors are opened for air circulation. The A/C runs 2-3 months in summer and the dehumidifier runs 3-4 months in winter.

Only bug issues are June bugs when they are real active getting in the tanks. Fish will eat most every thing else that lands in there.

I'm running an a/c in my garage. I only see skeeter larvae in my sump from time to time, I'm sure they are in the tank too but the fish eat them there. I've gotten splashed a few times when a June bug falls in the tank lol! They love 'em!

Thanks for the input guys. I don't think I can get an A/C unit in the garage. Will use a fan to wisk the air around the tank.

I have a portable A/C unit that sits on the floor. The fish are in 1 bay of the 3 car garage that I walled off and insulated. I vented the hot air out into the other part of the garage and have a hose from the water catch pan thet drains out under the insulated garage door. It sits under a 200 gallon tank out of the way.

I ran my central heat and air out to my garage. I insulated the garage door with foam board and it works. My heat in the winter kills me, but spring through fall is not to bad
