| Just stumbled across this site while doing some seaching. I have been looking for a good site for a while hope this is it. I currently have a 55gal with African Cichlids, everything had been going great for about a year then 2 weeks ago everything went crazy. I had a Midas chiclid for about 7 months then 2 weeks ago he hit "puberty" and stared attacking all my fish even a Venetus that was twice his size. I took the Midas out, some damage had already been done when all my docile fish went nuts and started attacking the rest of my fish needless to say I lost 6 fish about $160. Now I'll be starting all over again. | |

| Sorry for your loss! Stinks when stuff like that happens. I would have not stuck him with my africans they can get pretty nasty. What are you looking to get this time around? What do you have left? | |

Yeah i didn't know that would happen, I'm still kinda new to what can go with what.............Plus he was the sissy of the tank when we got him. I want to try to stay Malawi. Right now i have an Auratus, Green Terror(should i get rid of him??), Demasoni(in recovery tank), Red Jewel, Ps Zebra, and another that's all orange. Oh yeah and a BAD @$$ Dannio(holds his own)

| If you want to go with Malawi I would get rid of your Green Terror, Red Jewel and probley the Demasoni b.c in some cases when they get adult size they are known to be real aggressive. If you like the Dannio and he holds his own keep him but you never know he may end up getting his but whiped.
How many African Cichlids are you looking to put in this 55G tank? Do you have any other tanks?

| you can get some unually tangs. or a very colorful tank by going with mbuna, peacocks, and / or haps from lake malawi. how many you can add depends on the type of fish you select. but somewhere around 20 normally. | |

| Are you asking me what to do if you wanted to keep all the fish you have now?
I would deffentley over populate. If you want to do all malawi in a 55G I would go with some Mbuna and a few peacocks.
Here are a list of some nice Mbuna and some Nice peaocks that you can get your hands on. Some of our users and sponsors have these or can get them. Just copy and past into google and you can do some research.
Mbuna Cynotilapia afra Cobwe 'Orange Back' Cynotilapia afra Jalo Reef 'Yellow Top' Cynotilapia axelrodi Nkhata Bay Iodotropheus sprengerae 'Rusty' Labeotropheus fuelleborni 'Marmalade Cat' Metriaclima sp. 'Msobo' Magunga Metriaclima sp. 'Red Top Gallireya' Gallireya Reef Pseudotropheus sp. 'Polit' Lion's Cove
Peacocks Aulonocara sp. 'Stuartgranti Maleri' Maleri Island Aulonocara jacobfreibergi Undu Reef 'Lemon Jake' Aulonocara jacobfreibergi Otter Point German Red Peacocks

| I think once your GT and your Jewel get bigger they might become more aggresive. You can always give it a try you never know it may work. | |

| also i am not sure this works for you as you want to keep what you have. i miss read what you stated. sorry, here you go.
if a female peacock or female hap is mixed in with male peacocks / haps it will cause major problems.
