Stupid 55g. . .

We have "resealed" a 55g we have twice now with no luck. . .it still leaks, but in different places. So frustrating!!! Think it's time to just get rid of it and find one that doesn't leak

Did you strip off all of the inner silicon and clean it with alcohol?
Did you run a full bead on all seam and run over it with your finger?

When resealing a tank you need to redo it all just not the leaky part.

Oh yes, we took out all of the silicone and replaced it. We didn't look the tank over well when we bought it used months ago, and once we got it home realized that the previous owners had tried to reseal it. I have no idea what they used, but they tried to reseal it inside and out. Awful job. Anyway. . . we have just decided to scrap it, no telling what they used to seal it with and whether or not it was safe. Just sucks.

I would hang onto it and see if you can get the panes out of the frames, they could be handy later.

did u do the silicone between the glass?

I'm not sure, my husband and my brother worked on it. We need another one pretty quick, so we are just gonna get what we can for it.

No we did not seal between the glass we also didn't remove any from between the glass. I wasn't sure if I took it apart if I could put it back together correctly again.

never take a tank apart, it will never be the same........
The inside is all that should ever need to be redone, the inside is your seal and between the glass is what keeps it from falling apart, I believe they use a different grade of silicone for between the glass panes.

that sucks, but i wouldn't toss it, are you sure they are getting all the old silicone off? even the smallest little bit of old silicone will create a gap and water will find it.

I scraped and scraped and scraped and then alcohol then scraped and scraped and scraped. 100% positive it was clean I don't know what was wrong made sure that I did not get oil and it was dry.
