| Just trying to get started again. Haven't had a tank in about 10 years due to living in a rental where I wasn't comfortable with the condition of the flooring. Just getting back into things with a few live-bearer tanks. Hope to get back into African Cichlids in the near future. I used to breed them when I lived in Montana and had a regular market for them. Don't know that I want to get back into breeding them, but I'd love to get back into keeping them. May even do a couple more saltwater tanks this time around. I have found this to be a very addictive hobby, so who knows what I'll end up with. | |

| To answer some of the questions:
I'd have to look up the proper names of what I used to breed. I can't remember since it's been so long and I have a memory like an elephant...with amnesia. One was a bright yellow, not very commonly bred in captivity at the time, although I've seen them more regularly in recent years. They are selling for 8 to 10 dollars each for 1/2 inch babies. When I was breeding them, I was selling them that size to stores for that price. The other was a common blue variety that I was only able to get around 2 dollars each for. They usually had larger broods and were a bit hardier. I was also working on a strain of guppy with a pale blue abdomen, dark blue tail and fins, with a black border. Beautiful little fish. I was on the third generation when I had to move in a hurry (wife absconded with everything but the house and left me bankrupt). I ended up giving those to a guy who owned a pet store. Don't know that he kept them "pure", as I have not seen the variety anywhere.
"Unknown" is my user name. Either that or Anonymous. My name is John. With that being one of the most common names in the world, I try to keep things a little off kilter.
I currently live in Garland, TX and will probably be here for several years as I just bought a house.
Not sure what kind of Cichlids I will get into. Still working on where I will put some larger tanks. It all takes time and money, both of which are rather scarce at the moment. I tend to favor Africans, but have kept a number of American varieties as well.
The reason you are asking so many questions is to get information. Simply a matter of curiosity about a newcomer creeping in with an ambiguous username.
I thank you all for the welcome. I'm sure you will see me popping in and out on occasion.

I have three 10 gallons with mollys, platys, and some "carp" (goldfish) varieties. They are all set up as community tanks with corys, cats, and danios. I also have a 2 gallon "hospital/quarrantine" tank. Since my wife insisted on getting some pictus cats, I'll need to get a larger tank in the near future. I'm probably looking for a 30-40 gallon tank for my next set-up. I'll probably keep that set up as a South American community tank with some of the more "docile" cichlids, some live bearers, and possibly another variety of cat that would get along with the pictus cats I currenly have. I'll also have to find something for the "middle" area of the tank. It's all speculation until I can come up with the funds to get it going.
