| I have only used the ammonia method and it has worked great for us. I like to know that I can put a load of fish in and I have enough bacteria to support it. I suppose it's just all personal preference and experience. As long as you know what you are doing and use the right ammonia, it works great. I just don't like killing fish I suppose, or putting them through all the ups and downs of getting a tank cycled. Like I said, just my personal preference. :) | |

| The fish food method (fishless); 1st day put in enough food to feed 20-30 fish, then feed the empty tank till all the levels have cycled though and gotten normal then you do a 75% water change and add fish. |

| Ya you get the cheapest flake you can find to do it that way, other than the first day is small pinches per day... |

| id usually get used medias from another filter or tank and drop it all in the new tank and wait about a day or two and add a couple of fish afterward.. works fine so far. The gunkiest and nastiest you can find the better. | |
