You should try to find obsidian sand in your area. I found it here and it was only .45 a pound and the fish love it.

Black crushed quartz. $26 for a 50lb bag.

You can find them at a pool/tile store.

It is stocked in their warehouse in the back. Supplies might be limited because the manufacturer has discontinued production. Call before you make the trip. I bought 150 lbs about two months ago.

BEWARE!!!! The black gravel made by the 3M company is the only one that I trust. The reason is that the 3M brand is made solely of quartz but the others contain a thing called, "I R O N S L A G " anything metal in your fish tank will certainly cause your fish to go to an early grave!!!! I found this out the hard way when I first started in this hobby. Some might say that this is not true and that it has worked for them. The question is.......Are you willing to roll the dice on this one?
