| For some reason they will not breed! Right now I have 1 male & 2 females in a 55g. They show signs, lip locking, flapping against each other. But for some reason they won't spawn!
Can anyone help me? Or give me advice.

| lip locking is a sign of fighting. Are you sure you dont have 2 males 1 female? | |

| This may sound weird but mine always used to breed when i would do a water change? And do you have a flat area for them to lay eggs? also give them plenty of hiding spots "to set the mood"... Then if its not working i think you might have all males or all females. | |

| Flap'n against each other sounds like part of the breed'n ritual. But lip lock'n is the way most fish fight.

| Jacks will lip-lock to weed out weak mates. It is actually a mating ritual. I think the problem may be that we don't have enough hiding spots. I think maybe some terracotta pots might be useful. I don't think there are enough hiding spots for them to breed.
They are definitely 1 male and 2 females. The coloration on the lower jaw on Jack Dempsey's are the tell-tale. I also vented 2 out of the 3 just for double sureness.

Water changes are a must if you want your fish to breed.

| He's doing bi-weekly water changes. Not the problem. You can get the pots at Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart. Just make sure they are the clay ones. Rinse them super good in hot water and you should be good to go. | |
