Albino Red Fin Shark (Albino Rainbow Shark)

July Fish of the Month Redfinsharkhiding

Name: Epalzeorhynchos frenatum

Origin: Thailand

Size: 6-8 inches full grown

Temperature: 76-78 F

Tank Size: One per 30 gallons

The Albino Red Fin (Rainbow) Shark is a variant of the Red Fin or Rainbow Shark. Both are very common in the hobby, although not much is said about them. These fish are semi-aggressive, so keepers beware (mine have successfully killed several fish in their day). They occupy the lower half of the tank and can get very territorial. Feeding is very easy. They will accept most pelleted and frozen food selections, but require brine shrimp and blood worms for the best colors. Breeding is almost impossible due to the fact that males and females cannot be sexed visually and because their territorial nature will not allow the keeper to have multiple specimens in a tank. These fish, however, are extremely beautiful once fully matured and offer a great option for non-cichlid color in a larger community tank.  Enjoy!

They did well with my Jacks for a while...until the Jacks paired off. Then I had to move them.
