| I have a 75 gallon tank which currently houses one Albino Rainbow shark (6+ inches) and one Raphael Striped Catfish (6+ inches). I am wanting to put some Angels of an uncommon color variety and maybe a group of discus in the tank. It currently has one amazon Sword and one Melon sword, but will have a couple cryptocorns and a couple micro chain swords in it and I will continue adding plants. I was also thinking of adding some Neon's or Cardinals and maybe some Hatchet fish for color and activity. The Rainbow shark has a couple places he lays during the day and the Striped Cat has a 12 inch diameter 8 inch high cave with a 6+ inch opening he lays in during the day.
Would this be a compatible mix?

| i have keep angels and discus with no problems. just make sure the discus are getting food and the angels dont pair up. the angels are more aggressive than the discus so the discus dont get as much of the food. | |

| Thanks, I have read Discus need water changes weekly of almost 100% which makes no sense to me as you would lose your cycle if you were to change more than 50% and even at a 50% change you risk algae blooms.
I like to replace the water that evaporates as we are in the desert I usually add one to two gallons a week to my 20 gallon tanks (I have three), and maybe do a five gallon change once or twice a month (I use city water filtered through a solid carbon block filter which is supposed to remove all amonia, chlorine, and down to .03 parts per million of chloramine which I let sit in a covered five gallon bucket with a capful or two of API Stress Zyme with Aloe, but sometimes for the fish only tanks I use straight out of the water filter). I also like to over filter the water as two of the 20 gallon tanks have Tetra Whisper HOB filters intended for 30-45 gallons and the other is undergravel filtration running reverse flow powered by two Penguin 660R powerheads (170 gal per hour) which pull the water through two panty hose covered Hydor-Sponge Pro 4 sponge filters (intended for 40 gallon tank), and blowing the water and air down the riser tubes and under the filter plate. I also have Blackworms under the filterplate and in the gravel (one 20 pound bag of 1" covered by a bag of Eco-complete which is topped by one 20 pound bag of the regular sized (1/4 inch +/-) that was in the tank for three plus years. The 75 gallon tank is filtered by a Marineland Emporer 280 and a Marineland 350 Deluxe canister filter.
My water quality is 0 ppm amonia, 0 ppm nitrite, up to 40 ppm nitrate (thanks cattle feedlots and dairy), PH of 7.4-7.6 and kept around 76-78 degrees except my Sulawesi 20 gallon tank which I run up to 80 degrees.
I feed Blackworms when I can get them, Tetra color flake food, Hikari or Wardley algae wafers, fresh caught bugs (flies, ants, others that end up in the hummingbird feeders).
My thought is to get eight nickle to quarter sized angels and 10 1-1.5 discus, some tetras for color and add more plants/hidey holes.

| What is your nitrate level? I can get mine down just a tad by letting the water sit in a bucket with the Stress Zyme for a couple days, and also by having Blackworms that eat uneaten food and other detritus that gets in the substrate (these also provide food for any fish in the tanks as one 20 gallon and the 75 gallon are fish with some snails (Malaysian trumpet snails, and one has an explosion of pond snails also that I squish for the Khuli loach, two Pepper Corys, and three Least Killifish).
I don't want to jump and have what happened to the Cardinal Shrimp happen (they got to me in very stale water).

| another question: Would dime sized Angels be too small to put with 1-1.5 inch Discus? Thinking the Discus being bigger they would be able to get some of the feed?

| I would probably get quarter sized ones. My nitrates were zero. I put neutral regulator powder and prime in my tap water. Since I'm in Texas my water is probably harder than yours so you might not need the neutral regulator in. I just used that to make my water a little softer | |

| yes they will work, just want to be careful because the angels can give discus illness and vs/vrs plus angels are more argressive then discus.. it's been done before I had discus and angels together. | |
