Came home today to find every fish in my 16 gallon tank bow front floating at the top of my tank. Considering I have kept fish for a good while i couldnt imagine what had happened. So I began to remove a dead fish and immediately I knew what happened, my tank water was hotter than my body temp... 120 degrees f to be exact my fish boiled to death, because of a defective tetra water heater.... Never buy a heater that you cant adjust the temp... Casualties include 4 yo yo loaches, 9 baby Cory cats, a male bristle noise, female albino long finned bristle noise..... When I came home to dead fish I cryer... I hate freaken tetra dont use there heaters for sure... :...(

Oh Ghost I'm so sorry to hear this. Heaters are all so iffy. I learned long ago to never buy ones that can't be adjusted.

Whisper the fish hobby gets expensive, so when you find a good deal on something you buy it. But unfortantly every deal isn't a good deal... It just sucks I have used tetra heaters before infact three to be exact for about three years with turtles and one 10 gallon with no issues.... I'm just beyond shocked...I guess its just hit and miss.... But it's way more pricey in the long run to replace your stock... Not to mention very very depressing and sad.... Adjustable heaters are always better so you can raise or lower the temp for breeding or illness purposes.... God knows I will never buy or recommend to anyone a tetra heater..... Thanks for yalls sympathy sassy and whisper

Sorry to hear about your fish, it is so annoying when a heater malfunctions like that. I had that happen to me a few years ago. Don't let it deter you like it did me. After it happened to me I didn't keep fish for over 4 years.

Strawman I definitely see why you would stop keeping fish all together. The whole situation made me sick to my stomach. While in the moment I wanted to just give the tank away... Luckly my other fish were starring at me and I couldnt just give up on them.... My fish are my babies, I love them.... There my stress releaver.. I miss my bristle pair the most.... Im sorry you had to experience.this tradgey as well.... Guess what made it in the 120 degrees f water some trumpet snails.... The weirdest thing, and im hoping my plants pull threw....that were in the tank....

Glad there was some positive in there! That is awesome! I have suffered a few fish tragedies. The one that bothered me the most was when I had a Jack Dempsey and this wasnt long before the heater fiasco. We had a huge snow storm, and the power went out. He hung in there through the storm and his water got a bit cold...prolly below 70. About a week or 2 after the power went out he died. That really stunk. I had him for 4-5 years and he would eat out of my hand. He was an awesome fish. Enough sad stories though, I have 4 tanks right now and they all seem to be doing well. Fish tragedy 265353
