strange foam and film?

My wife painted the bedroom 2 days ago and before she started she put plastic sheeting over the aquarium (10 gal with baby cichlids) and the sheeting did end up laying on the water..After she got done and the paint dried i took off the sheeting and fish were doing great..the next day(just a few mins ago) i went to feed them and noticed a light white colored film across the top of the water and some white foam gathered around the filter out take..if you touch the film it breaks up so i took out what i could..Fish are acting just fine anybody have an idea what it is and does it have anything to do with the paint or plastic sheeting that was on it???

I would do a 50% water change and add new carbon to the filter, Just to be on the safe side.

Here is another trick that I have been useing for years, It is called the news paper trick. just take a page from a newspaper (one page should do it) place it on top of the water like a blanket and just drag it slowly across the water from on side of the aquarium to the next and lifting the end as it reaches the other side. repeat this until the film is all picked up. usually it takes once to do the trick. Try it out and you will see.another trick if you want, a protein skimmer works well too!!!! Save money.............NEWSPAPER!!!!!
