| No, I dont own one. But, I saw one at my LFS that I recently found. It was a red color. It looked exactly like the pics I have seen of arowanas. It was pretty small (a baby, no doubt) but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was labeled as.
Are there ANY arowanas that can be housed in a tank less than 100 gallons? Google failed me (yet again) and I cannot find any pics that are the color I saw.

| Depends on the footprint of the tank. I know they need enough room to turn around so a big tank is gonna be needed in the future. Every thing I ran into on google was pretty much saying a 180 is needed. Here is a link to the red ones (asian). http://funarowanas.blogspot.com/2007/09/red-arowanas.html | |

| You can house almost any fish in any tank, but you have to know that eventually it will outgrow it and when it does it's time to move it. I've house an arowana in 100 gallon tank before. That's a good starting point but yes it will outgrow it in a matter of months. Arowanas are one of those fish that can outgrow about any type of home tank. I know a guy who has a 450g with two arowanas that are 30"+. More then likely it's a common arowana, which is a very nice fish in it's own but probably not anything outside of that. Red arowanas are illegal to import to the US and sell for $1,000+ as babies and Black arrows and Gold arrows sell for hundreds of dollars. | |

| it sounds like an asain arowana they are one of my favorite arowana they are very prised in the orintal market they bring great welth and prospirity. the ones that are imported are chiped so they can track were they come from. b very awar that that fish has fedral laws that ristrict ownig them at all. that fish can give u a 25 to life sentance and huge fines for having them in your possion. it has to do with the disese that the can bring into the us. it is possible to find them in the market though. i had a freind that was caught in a fish store in california with 12 babys and got a 50,000 dollar fine and they fish were put to sleep he played stuipid so if your truley intrested in owning one check with your state fish and game alot of times they will alwoy you too get a permit to have one it generaly cost about 500 a year and they will come to your house and if u want to get rid of it or of it dies you will have to show the body | |

| Hmmmm, I think I need to make another trip up there to see what it was called. They were asking like $12 for it. I doubt I would ever get one, as I cannot fit a big enough tank in my house for one. I wish, tho. | |

| fishy are you aware of how the law works. The business that sold them is guilty also. The importer and shipper are also guilty. The wildlife people do that to try to stop illegal importation. | |

| If youve never kept a larger aggressive fish then I wouldnt start with an arowana..Thats my fish of choice and Ive raised them for a long time. It may have been mislabeled from what I read, because yes Red Arowanas are illegal. | |

| Wait , $12 for a baby red arrowana, a rare and undoubtedly no-no fish in the states? Doesn't that send off a red flag anyone? i can't find a silver one for less than $40 here. That's like seeing a freshly processed Congo silverbacked gorilla rug for $25. | |

That's like seeing a freshly processed Congo silverbacked gorilla rug for $25. Needless to say I think we can all guarantee it's not a Red arowana with 1,000,000,000,000,000% certainty... Especially not one for $12 bucks as well, maybe if it were $1,200 but def not 12.... If you ever make the trip down to KC for some reason there are a couple LFS where you can find babies for $20.

| I've tried arrowanas a couple of times, and they always managed to jump out of the covered tank. The last time I even taped the glass covers on the front and back and still the booger jumped through the 2"-3" opening where the intake tube was. I have up then. LOL
You're right there's no guarantee it's legit. I'm surprised China hasn't tattooed arrowanas red, for US sales.
