Placidochromis sp. “phenochilus tanzania”

I have a 3 1/2 to 4 placidochromis phenochilus and I'm not sure if it's a male or female. It is very dark blue with balck barring that you can slightly see. Almost a violet color. I have been growing this fish out for about 7+mths. I have been reading that they color up at about 4 inches. I am really really really hoping for a male because I have an all male african tank. If you could give me an opinion I would appreciate it thanks!! I"ll try and get a pic if I can.

I have kept these fish before. They are a very nice fish and not too aggressive. The male will turn blue with hues of flakes all over its body and the females just look grey with bars and a hint of blue. They are a interesting fish!
