Dropsy again? Empty
PostSubject: Dropsy again?   Dropsy again? Icon_minitime9/28/2011, 8:28 pm

Hi all - Perhaps someone has advice on what else I can do for my ryukin, whom I suspect may be succumbing to dropsy. He first fell ill about a month ago, and I put him in a hospital tank and treated with maracide and epsom salt. He seemed to have recovered completely, scales went back to normal, etc, so after about 2 weeks I returned him to his regular tank. Now about one week ago, I once again noted the pinecone fins and lethargy. He seems to be getting worse and worse and has now stopped eating (for the past 24 hours). I've read much on dropsy being fatal in most cases - does anyone here have any advice on what I can try as a "last ditch" effort to save him? Or, what is the best method of humane euthanasia? I don't want to see him suffer.
Thanks in advance,
Alana

I don't know how to make it better , but to euthanize it in a humane manner , place it in a baggie in your freezer .
Sorry for you ,,,Ray

I don't know that I would consider slowly freezing to death to be humane. As gross as it sounds a faster way would be using a very sharp knife to quickly cut the head off. Slowly freezing to death would be a very last resort.
